With
nearly 75 years of community radio under our belt, 88.1 FM WESU continues to
offer an integral community service to an ever-growing group of stakeholders.
The important service WESU provides is made possible by the hard work and
dedication of more than 120 volunteers and a modest paid staff of 1.5
employees, with support from Wesleyan University, local business and
organizations, and listeners like you! As we enter the winter holiday season, we hope we can count on you once again to
give the gift of community radio during our 8th annual winter pledge
drive!
During
this era of media consolidation and commoditization of the airwaves, your
support for the unique brand of truly free-form community radio that WESU
provides is essential. Listener support funds roughly one third our annual
budget. We need that percentage to grow to ensure WESU can continue to deliver
the specialized programs you enjoy. Your tax-deductible gift helps ensure that
one of the nation’s oldest college radio stations continues to operate as a
venue for diverse communities to explore and share important and
often-marginalized political and artistic discourse. Your continued financial support is critical
to our staying on the air.
To
thank you for your pledge this year, we are happy to offer a new WESU t-shirt
design that will help you boast your support for free-form radio as well as a
spanking new hooded sweatshirt design sporting a vintage WESU logo, and our
popular “classic” red and black, long-sleeved two sided shirt. This year we are
also pleased to be able to offer donors DVD copies of the film documentary
“Heist, Who Stole The American Dream —and
How to Get it Back?” Narrated by progressive political commentator Thom
Hartmann, this award-winning film traces the worldwide economic collapse to a
1971 secret memo entitled “Attack on American Free Enterprise System,” written
more than 40 years ago by the future Supreme Court Justice Lewis Powell. Of course, many donors choose to skip the
thank-you gifts altogether, to ensure their entire
donation benefits WESU.
Thanks
again for your past support. If you value the service WESU provides, we need to
hear from you and hope you will consider increasing your level of giving. You can donate online at www.wesufm.org;
complete the enclosed form; or simply call the pledge line, 860-685-7700,
during our annual winter holiday drive (December 3- 10).
Sincerely,
88.1
FM WESU
